Organizing For The New Year

This time of the year is great because now that Christmas is over, I have some much needed time to organize for the new year. Organizing is my thing. I love, love, love it. Unfortunately this year has been so busy of me with school, work, volunteering, and the lovely college applications that my time to organize is slim. I am someone who needs a clean space to think clearly and do my best. It also makes me happier when I am not constantly worrying about where something is. Right now I am in Arizona with my dad, so rather than a post about organizing my physical space, I decided to talk about what you can do with just the necessities to make life a little easier.

Something that can be super time consuming but so helpful for me is going through the files on my computer. I have so many things that I don't need anymore, are pointless, or just taking up storage. These can head to the trash and no longer cause any clutter on my laptop. Another quick thing, empty the trash on your computer. When you delete something it hangs out in there until you empty it, just taking up space! For the stuff you don't want to get rid of but don't need in your face, folders. I use folders within folders within folders. I usually start by saying Personal, School, College, and Trips. I can sort everything into those and then divide the stuff up from there. Each school year gets a folder, then each class with in the folder. Each vacation gets a folder within the trip folder. This also makes it so much easier when it comes time to find something.

A super simple thing I do when each season changes is to update my desktop background. I usually look on Evelyn Henson's website or on Pinterest. I love to have a cute and colorful one that makes me happy each time I look at it. Here is the one I am using right now. Its an older Evelyn Henson one that I found on Pinterest. I think it is so cute and a nice reminder to be happy and grateful each day.

One of my biggest pet peeves is having email notifications. Each morning I go and delete or read the emails I received. However, the ones I save become useless after a certain amount of time. Right now I am taking about 30 minutes to just get rid of any old emails that I don't need to save so there is less in there. I'm usually a more is more, but when it comes to my laptop and emails it is Less is More. This seems very tedious but it is totally worth it in the end.

Something I did yesterday during my plane ride to Arizona was deleting apps. I always download apps that I think are cool but stop using after a week. I think I deleted around 10 or more apps. It made it so much easier to find my favorite apps and no longer be overwhelmed by apps I no longer use. I think simplifying the amount of apps and other stuff on our phones makes us feel less attached to it as well as no longer feel the need to be on it every 10 seconds. Honestly, they are just apps and if I really miss it I can always re-download them.

I always forget to do this because I love my planner. Somehow I forgot it this week; I blame it on the 2 am wake up and 5 am flight. This gave me a good time to update my phone and laptop calendar with important dates to my life. I use my planner when ever I can but sometimes I need my phone to remind me that my Aunts birthday tomorrow or that a big college application is due. I also try to get rid of things I no longer need on my calendar like my old work schedule.

I love social media, not really posting on it but more seeing what everyone has been up to. I know that social media can be really bad for my mental health by constantly comparing my self to the life they choose to show on the internet. Right now I am trying to unfollow people I don't care about or make me insecure. I also try to only go on it when I am in a good mood instead of using it to feel worse. Social media is great and amazing but I think we all need to take it with a grain of salt because usually it isn't real.

I am using this time away from home to really take a look at my beauty routine. Right now I only have the "essentials" but this it 2 large makeup bags filled with makeup and skin care products. Half of that is stuff I don't use but convince my self I might need. I am making a pile of all the stuff I have used on this trip and a pile of the stuff I haven't touched. The pile of the untouched doesn't need to be thrown out or anything crazy (I am such a girly girl and love my beauty stuff) but I can realize that I don't need it with me at all times.

Finally, I am using this time to reflect on the past year. I am trying to see what I really do need in my life and decide what things can go. There are things I need with me at all times like my phone, debit card, license, chap stick, and deodorant. On the other hand, I don't need to have 3 granola bars, my laptop charger, and 13 different colored pens. This goes for other things in my life as well like I need to call and text my mom every day, but worrying about Snapchat streaks with people I barely talk to? Nope.

With the new year so close, I hope you go into it with goals and clarity of how you will handle it. For me, organization leads to a clearer head and simpler life ahead of me. What I have shared are just a few of the things that help me find my goals for 2018. Happy New Year!

Living With Divorced Parents

Hey guys,

I wasn't really sure if I wanted to write this, but I thought that this could help someone really struggling right now. With the holidays coming to an end I have realized how much I have changed since my parents got divorced. For me its been about 5 years, but the holidays and winter are when it effects me the most. Overall, it really does suck, but it does get better. I have developed a way to get through the holidays and really any day without having their divorce ruining my favorite time of the year.

My biggest thing to tell you is to not pick sides. It can be really hard to stay level headed, trust me. My hardest Christmas's were the ones were I was constantly thinking mom's would be better or who would get me the better gift. That doesn't make anything better and it just puts you in a position where you aren't enjoying the time with the parent. I had picked sides in the beginning and it just ended up with me getting hurt no matter what.

An easy way to try to make it easier  around the holidays is to have your parents split the holidays evenly. One has thanksgiving and one has christmas, then next year they switch. I think this is really helpful so you don't feel like your favoring one parent over the other. This can be an awkward talk at first, but usually both will end up agreeing and just needed someone to start the conversation.

Packing has always been an issue for me while going between my moms and my dads. I live full time with my mom but see my dad a lot. This makes the wardrobe situation a bit crazy, especially because I like to have ALOT of options. Having the basics at both make it the easiest. For me that is a cozy sweater, jeans, boots, necklace, and under garments. I know this seems simple, but it makes things a bit easier and is something you no longer have to worry about.

Finally, don't be afraid to talk about it. It is totally okay to see a counselor or a therapist because having your parents divorce can be so scary and heart breaking. It is something that is out of ones control. There is no shame in seeking help about what your feeling about your parents divorce.

I hope this helped any of you going through divorce. If any of you need to talk about it or have any questions for me, feel free to email or comment.

How to Survive 1st Semester Senior Year

Hey guys,

I am sorry that it has been so long but senior year has been hard. Applying to colleges has been time consuming and classes have been harder than I have expected. However, I am almost done with my first semester. I know, my school is weird and our semester ends in February. I have gained a lot of knowledge on how to get through this crazy time.  Here are my tips!

Apply Early- I have applied to 5 colleges and I got into all 5! I now have such a weight off my shoulders knowing that I have options and no longer stressing. I totally recommend applying to colleges early (i did early action) so that you can hear back quicker and focus on other things.

Take Hard Classes-  I know this is not what you want to hear. You have been waiting all that time to have an easy senior year, but sadly colleges don't want to see that. Also, if you are only taking easy classes you will not go to school. I am taking 3 AP classes and an extra math and English class. Each day is somewhat of a challenge, but keeps me focused.

Work Experience- I know there are a lot of opinions on whether or not to have a job in high school, but my job has been one of the best parts of my high school experience. It also taught me how to handle and save my money, a skill a class will never teach me. If you are able to work somewhere that you will enjoy, do it.

Join Clubs- My school doesn't have a ton of clubs that interest me, but this year I joined 2 and founded one. I didn't realize how easy it was to start a club and how interesting they can be. Ours meet at lunch so it isn't a huge time commitment either.

Don't Stress About Tests- I thought I was going to take the SAT and ACT again this fall but I realized that stressing for weeks isn't worth 30 points or 2 points. I will tell you this and I want you to repeat it again, YOU ARE MORE THAN A TEST SCORE. Yes, the tests are super important but there is so much more to a student like grades and activities.

Know Your Limits- I thought this year I was going to go to every single game and lead all of the cheers. Well guess what, I like games but I don't love them. I went to about half the home games and only went for as long as I wanted to. I had fun, but I didn't get overwhelmed with it.  Don't feel like you need to do everything because its your senior year, but do show school spirit.

Take Time- Knowing that I will be somewhere else in 9 months freaks me out in the best way possible. However, I feel like I need to spend so much time with my family and friends. I think this is a good and bad thing, but spend time with the people you love. I will never regret time I spend with my mom or grandma.

I hope you guys enjoyed reading this and if you have any questions please comment or email me!

What I Keep In My Purse When Traveling

Hey guys,

I love to feel prepared, especially when traveling. If I can use a small purse I will always use it. My go to small purse is this one by J Crew. I love how simple it is and how it matches almost every outfit. Since I am a bit of a freak when it comes to traveling, I feel like I need to be prepared for anything.

I think it is important to get a great bag. I love mine because the size is small enough where I don't feel like I am carrying around my entire suit case and large enough for my wallet, phone, and all my other essentials. Another amazing part of this bag is that it comes with a  lock and key. That gives me some peace of mind while traveling. I think this bag is a great option, but I do think it was expensive for such a small purse but I think it has passed my test.

So finally, here is what I keep in my purse when I am traveling.

Wallet- I use a Kate Spade wallet and it isn't my favorite thing. I love the color and the size, but it really bugs me that there is no space for coins. I think before school starts (ahhhhh) I am going to get myself a new wallet. I always like to keep my wallet on me because every place does things differently. I think its important to keep money on you- for example in Peru you have to pay to use a bathroom.

Hand Sanitizer- I like to use the Honest Company hand sanitizer because its a spray hand sanitizer and it is fairly cheap. It also smells super yummy. I get grossed out super easily and feel better when I know I have hand sanitizer.

Lotion- My favorite lotion is from Origins and it is so moisturizing. It is a hand cream so it is very thick. Not everyone enjoys it because of how thick it is or the price. It is really expensive but when you make purchases at Origins, they sometimes give you them for free or for a discounted price. BTW- Origins is my go to for all skin care, it has never failed me and and completely changed my skin.

Pens- My favorite pens are the Le Pens and I always carry them in my bag. For some reason I always need to sign receipts in another country and sometimes its quicker if I have my own pen. I also always want to write something down when in a car or something.

Perfume- I like to keep the roller ball of my favorite perfume on me because I hate smelling gross. I also hate smelling things that are gross, so if I am ever in a situation where something smells not so good, I just roll on some perfume and smell it. I instantly feel better.

Lip Balm- I always get chapped lips and I hate them. It is gross and I think the only lip balm that works for me is Vaseline. They honestly have the best ones and they have all sorts of cute flavors. They are also super small so they fit practically everywhere, especially in a small purse.

Lip Stick- When traveling you never know when you are in the perfect spot for a picture. I think lip stick is the quickest way to spruce myself up and get photo ready. I have a few go to's but I think mt favorite is by Burt's Bee's because its moisturizing and has great pigment.

Tissues- So maybe I have allergies, but I think I sneeze about a million times a day. It doesn't really bother me, but sometimes I feel like tissues are important to keep. People always joke that I act like an old person with my weird tissues in my purse. Honestly you never know when you need tissues because life happens. I would always rather be safe then sorry.

Scrunchies- Scrunchies aren't the cutest things ever and sorry if you think they are. However they work great when you want to pull your hair up and you don't want a gross kink in your hair. I usually just get the cheap ones from target because I always end up loosing them.

Phone Charger- I recommend bringing a phone charger with a plug for that country because having a dead phone in a place you know sounds horrible. I can't even imagine how much that would stir up my anxiety. I think its just safe to keep one just in case.

Girl Products- I have recently learned that some countries do feminine products differently. I now carry my own with me at all times because going into a weird store to buy something that you aren't comfortable with sucks. Again, life happens and its better to be prepared.

I loved writing this one because I honestly love reading about what other people keep in their bags.  I also do not keep all this stuff with me in my purse at home.

Have a great day,
Allie

Overcoming Home Sickness

I am currently in Australia and having the most amazing time, however I am on the other side of the world. This opportunity is amazing and I love every part of it, but I would be lying if I said I don't miss home. I realize that every time I travel I always forget how home sick I get, but that doesn't stop me. It wasn't always this way. I remember when I went to Peru; I cried almost every single night because I missed my family so much.  Now that I am here and it has been about 2 weeks I think I have got the whole overcoming home sickness thing down.

This trip has been a lot better because every time I feel homesick I know what to do. Instead of letting it ruin my trip and constantly bug me, I can understand it and reflect on it. Right now I am able to really combat my home sickness and allow myself to really enjoy this trip.

This is my routine that I do when I start to feel homesick. I found this works best for me based on my experience with anxiety as well as the people I am with. I know every one experiences home sickness differently, but for me this seems to work.

First-When I first feel homesick I try to take a shower or bath because those really calm me down. I know whenever I am upset I need to take a shower or bath to clear my head and just calm my nerves. Once I have taken a bath or shower I then change into comfortable clothing because usually when I get homesick I want to sleep.

Second-I know most people would say to just call or text your family, but for me it makes me feel ten times worse because then I start crying and I don't actually get to talk to them. However, once I am called down and have pretty much realized why I am missing home, I address it. Usually it is just that something feels wrong and it ends up being that I feel like I forgot something or am missing out on something at home. In those times I try to reciprocate it. I think about what I missed and then reflect on the amazing time I am having here.

Third- I try to keep myself somewhat occupied on trips and not get lost in my head. I try to set some daily tasks to do instead of letting my mind wonder into the "what ifs." This usually means that I will try to read a book, go to lunch, bake something, or go to work with the family I am staying with.

Fourth-I really have been trying to create some what of a routine because I am such a creature of habit. I like to know what I am doing and have it almost be second nature to me. This also makes me feel more comfortable in my space. This can be harder on short trips, but on long trips they really pay off.

Fifth- I think that talking about being home sick makes me feel less home sick. Especially when I start to feel really lonely. I think the best thing to do is talk about it with someone there that you trust and let them know how and what you are feeling. Feeling home sick really does suck, but it is something that most people feel and it doesn't have to stop you.

I hope this helped you guys if you get home sick or are homesick.

Have a great day!
Allie

Etsy Finds

Hey guys,

I hope you are all having an amazing week. This morning I got bored and started browsing Etsy. Etsy is one of those websites where I sometimes forget about it, but I always love what they have. I have found a ton of things that I just love and I can't wait until I get back and can see if I can work these into my bedroom.

I love my bedroom but it really lacks art. I think this prints are so cute and would be a perfect addition to my room. I love my dog (a lab) and that print just spoke to me! I also thought the A was cute. I really like gallery walls but I think they are really hard to do. I think those three prints will work well with a mirror and a few pictures I have.

I learned that buying jewelry on Etsy can be difficult because I have had some experiences where I buy something and it breaks after a few days. Usually that is because it was pretty cheap and I should have expected that. For the price this one is (about $55) I think it should be decent quality, yet I won't be super sad if I misplace it.

The list is so cute. I have been super hesitant about getting this because I think that I could easily make one of these myself. However, after many hours of yelling at my computer I realize that spending the $20 on this is totally worth it. I love that it has water and meal trackers because it reminds me to drink water and makes me think about what I eat for a meal rather than eating small bits of unhealthy food.

If you guys have any favorite Etsy shops please let me know! I love supporting small businesses and especially finding amazing things for reasonable prices!

Have an amazing day!

Quick Life Update

Hey guys,

I am so sorry that I haven't posted anything. I am currently in Australia visiting family friends and I have just loved not worrying about anything. I am in love with Australia! The people here are amazing and so kind and the lifestyle is just a bit more laid back; people would just rather be happy than slave away at their jobs.

Since I have been in Australia I haven't really had a ton of time to do much because I have just been focusing on catching up with everyone. I feel like when I am not focused on so many things and just get time to spend with people I love I just get so much more energy and feel more confident.

Since I have this new confidence and have embraced the Australian life style I just want to do things that I love and make me happy. I love reading blogs and I have had a lot of time to think about what I want to do with this. I feel like now that I have been able to really be myself I will be able to make this blog work to the best of my ability and fill it with things I love.

Sorry that this was a bit of a weird blab of information. I am just really happy with everything right now and have been able to see things in a more positive attitude!

Thanks for reading!

PS- Have any of you guys been to Australia? If so is there anything I should do while I am here?

My Planner Organization

I love my planner. My planner comes with me practically everywhere and I write almost everything in it. I am currently using a Kate Spade planner. Last year I used a Lilly Pulitzer Agenda and I loved it. I think I will go back to the Lilly planner this year because of the color.

My planner is super organized and I love to utilize it to the best of my ability. I use the Le Pen pens to color code my planner. Now that school is out I don't really write as much down but I still keep many things the same. I try to only use my Zebra Midliner highlighters because they are almost pastel colors so I can still clearly read what is under neath. I know the color code organization isn't for everyone, but i really like it and i find that it works really well to match my lifestyle.

These two photos are from the school year and how I used my planner. I think its funny that the two pages I happened to choose were from the first week of school, and the last.

I try to use sticky notes to make lists or notes. On weekends I may add a sticky note to list the many things that I have to do that weekend and detailed notes on when and how I should complete them. I also really try to make it as cute and fun as possible so most of the sticky notes that I use are either pink or blue so they match the other colors. I also will draw little pictures on important and exciting days, but I am not an artist so I know these little doodles are not great.

There is a front pocket in my planner. I love this for small handouts from school or other things that I do. I also store some extra post its in there.

There are a lot of parts to this planner that I don't utilize quite as much as I would like to. Towards the front of the planner there is a  year at a glance section that I haven't really used. There is also a special events for each month section that I don't really use. When I first got the planner I added my family members birthday and some close friends birthdays to it but I haven't really looked at it since.

I use a paper clip to mark where I am in my planner. I got a pack of really cute paper clips that are blue and white from home goods and I just love how it looks. I have used a binder clip before but I didn't really like the indents that it would leave on the paper. I also didn't like how it wouldn't close all the way.

I really love all things about this planner but I will be going back to the Lilly Planner in a size large. I think I am going to get the print Gypsea because of the light pink and blue colors. If I was comparing the Lilly Pulitzer planner and the Kate Spade, I would say Lilly wins by just a little bit.

I hope you guys enjoyed this! If you have any other tips or your favorite planner, please let me know. I am always on the hunt for new planners!

2017 Summer Bucket List

Hey guys. Yesterday marked the first day of summer so I thought it would be fun to do a 2017 summer bucket list. This summer I will be traveling for practically the entire time so this bucket list will apply to not just the summer season.

I love making a list of things to do in the summer because around July I get super bored and order pizza and watch Netflix all day. That is super fun but it is summer and it is time to get outside and do something productive. So here are my 17 things to do this summer for the year 2017!

  1. Workout Three Times a Week- In the summer I have a lot more time to do things and going to the gym is one. I am also able to workout without having to worry about school work or other activities that I have to plan my day around.
  2. Learn Ten New Recipes- Again, with so much time I love trying out new recipes. Now that I am vegetarian I am trying out a lot more high protein no meat meals. Ill share any that I really enjoy.
  3. Explore New Places BY MYSELF- I am going to be traveling this summer with my summer so I will have the opportunity to travel and explore a few new places by myself and get to know myself and the city.
  4. Go Unplugged for 24 Hours- I think we all know that social media has many effects on someones confidence and personality. I think taking a day to just think about yourself and not focus on others is super important.
  5. Finish Ten Books (new post soon)- I love reading but during school I don't really have enough time in the day to read. I plan on reading at least ten books this summer and I will keep you updated on how they go.
  6. Start College Applications- I am a rising junior now and that means this summer is all about college applications. I am planning on getting most of the common app done before I go home and back to school. Please let me know if you guys have any tips on the college application process.
  7. Master my Australian Accent (hint hint)- I don't want to say anything more.
  8. Try Weird Food- I am a super picky eater and it annoys my entire family. Sometimes I go out of my comfort zone and try some crazy foods and I plan at least trying one weird food this summer.
  9. Try to Blog Three Times a Week- With all the free time (I feel like I am repeating myself but I haven't had this much free time in a long long time) I plan on using it to blog and get some really high quality content on here.
  10. Go Vegetarian- So I guess I already am vegetarian (I have only been for 3 weeks) but I want to continue this and stick with it and explore the many aspects of it. I especially want to see how it effects my body.
  11. To Not Drink Coffee for Two Weeks- I love coffee and there is a point where I drink way too much coffee. I am going to try a coffee cleanse to let my body take a break from the caffeine.
  12. Eat Ice Cream Every Day for One Week- I feel like this may be the easiest thing on this list but I want to put it on. I love ice cream so much and I think it would be fun to have some everyday for a week.
  13. Bike Ride Around Some Place New- I really enjoy bike riding but where I live there isn't a ton of places to go bike riding. However, there are places not too far from me that are really fun to go bike riding at that I want to try.
  14. Go Camping- I don't love camping. There is so much dirt and weird bugs but my family really likes to go camping so to make them happy I will make a promise to go camping at least once with them.
  15. Try 10 New Restaurants- Again I am a super picky eater so I tend to stick to the same food but I have been really trying to go and test new places.
  16. Watch Fireworks- Although I won't be in the country for the 4th of July but I love watching fireworks. Hopefully I will see them at a different time then or at least celebrate from a distance.
  17. Make a Ton of Memories- I am so excited for this summer. It is the start of many lasts and I just want to make sure that I am super happy and my mental health takes priority.
I hope you guys enjoyed this. I love doing things in the summer! Please let me know what your summer bucket list is and what you plan on doing this summer!

How To Have a Productive Summer

Hey everybody,

Sorry for not posting anything in a while. Today was my last day of school and there had been a lot of things leading up to that day. However, now it is summer and I couldn't be happier. I usually get a ton of stuff done in the summer and get to try a ton of new things.

So my summer can go two ways; me napping all day or me getting everything done. However, each summer I have some sort of project that I need to get done. Now, I know how to plan my summer so each day is productive and I can get a lot done. So here's the list!

  1. Use Your Planner- I love using my planner, but for many people they stop using it in the summer. If you keep up with your planner you will want to fill it with many things (or that is just me and like to see my planner full of color).
  2. Try Something New- Summer is a great time to start new things. With so much free time, you can probably try a new class or join a team of some sorts. This summer I am traveling and will be trying so many new things, and I will try to keep you guys updated on that!
  3. Get a Job- Having a job is so fun and the summer is a perfect time to get one! They give you something to do and you are able to make money!
  4. Start The Day Early- I know that many people love to sleep in during the summer but you loose so much time! Wake up at a decent time (for me around 8) and do something! This works best if you have something to do like a project or a job.
  5. Make a Routine- It can be hard to make a routine in the summer when you have no place to be or things to do, but it definitely helps. I think if you at least wake up at around the same day everyday and go and get coffee, it helps to make a day productive.
  6. Start a Project- I love to start projects in the summer and get a ton of stuff done. Usually I will update my room or try some super fun DIY's. Pinterest is a great way to find a ton of fun projects.
  7. Help Others- Summer can be a hard time for some people (usually older people) and during the summer it can be great if you can offer someone help. Sometimes it can just be asking them if they need something at the store or mowing the lawn.
  8. Have Quiet Time- I like to use the summer to just relax and give my self some alone time. I try to do this about once a day. For example, I might sit and read a book and drink some tea for an hour one night.
  9. Reflect- This is similar to the quiet time one but I enjoy reflecting in the summer. I am alone most of the time in the summer or at least not with friends all the time and I love using that time to just evaluate things in my life and start testing certain priorities.
  10. Reorganize-I love reorganizing. I think it is so much fun and so refreshing. I love reorganizing my room, closet, and even my computer. I love organizing things and making sure that all my things fit my routines and lifestyle.
I hope this helps you guys have a super fun and productive summer. If you guys have any more ideas please let me know! I hope you guys have an amazing day!

How To Survive Junior Year

It is finally here. This week is my last full week of being a high school junior and I am so excited yet freaked out. It feels like just yesterday I was a freshman! However, because of me being almost done with junior year I decided to write a list of the top 10 things you need to remember to do as a junior!! I hope you guys enjoy it!

  1. Challenge Yourself- Junior year is the year before you apply to colleges, which seems so crazy to me! This is the last real year that colleges will be looking at and you need to make sure you take a class load that reflects you. I definitely recommend taking AP classes (but not AP Chem) because these can give a nice GPA boost and you can earn college credit!
  2. Plan Ahead- This year I loved looking at colleges. Right now I have a list of all the schools I want to apply to and what the deadlines are. I also was able to travel and go look at a few schools that I have a huge interest in.
  3. Talk with Teachers- Get to know teachers and let them know you! This year I got a job, a volunteer position, and have great opportunities ahead of me. Most of those things wouldn't be possible without recommendation letters from teachers. Also, colleges usually require those and you want to make sure you receive a great letter from a teacher who knows your passions and work ethic.
  4.  Do Something- Junior year is already so busy but this year I was able to do many things that I wouldn't be able to do now. By junior year you (usually) have your license so activities like jobs and volunteer work are now options! Having a job and a volunteer position have been so rewarding!
  5. Start Early- I have taken both the SAT and ACT, and the first time a took the ACT was today! It is the middle of June!!! If I could go back in time I would tell myself to start taking these tests in the winter of my junior year. You want to have as much time as possible to study and improve, especially without the stress of college applications lingering above you.
  6. Have School Spirit- This year I only went to one football game. I wish I went to a ton more because they are truly so much fun! If you are like me and already have a super busy schedule, use the assemblies and spirit days to show your school spirit. (PS- go to the state championship basketball game because you will hate yourself for not going)
  7. Value Your Friends- This year was either great or sucked just because of friends. They can be so supportive and I think we sometimes forget that just because you can't hang out with someone all the time, doesn't mean your friendship has gone bad.
  8. Find Your Passion- This year I found so many things I am passionate about including kids, volunteer work, and writing. My job has been amazing and has taught me that my career definitely needs to have kids in it. My volunteer work has lead me to an organization that needs to be heard. This year has been huge for me in writing. I started a blog (obviously) and I also joined out school newspaper!
  9. Be Realistic- I went in to my junior year planning on getting a 4.0 (unweighted) GPA, making a ton of friends, being super social, dressing cute everyday, and getting a 1500 on the SAT (nope). Sometimes life happens and you need to be grateful for that. I didn't get an A in some classes but getting that B saved me my sanity.
  10. Have Fun- You only go to high school once, you are only a teenager once, and this life isn't forever. Its okay to make mistakes and its okay to not like Prom. As long as you are being true to yourself and doing what is best for you, you are doing great!
I hope this helped any of you that are stressing over junior year, its not that bad but its also just a year of school. If you guys have any questions about how mine went just email me!

Traveling This Summer

Hey guys,
This summer I am doing a ton of traveling, including some very long distant traveling. I absolutely love traveling and can't wait to do more traveling this summer. This trip in the summer will be very different from my others! However, because of this I have really been thinking about traveling essentials and what I need to bring on this trip.

Plane Essentials: On planes I definitely love to go prepared because of my fear of delays. At airports I definitely get hot and cold flashes. Depending on how long the flight is I will either use a backpack or a tote bag. For the longer flights I use a backpack because it can fit more and I can be a bit more organized when packing. If it is a shorter flight I will use a tote bag for when I don't need quite as much stuff. If I am going out of the country I use a document organizer. Those are really helpful when you want all of your important documents in one safe spot. I always carry a phone charger no matter where I go so my phone has a full battery.

Car Essentials: My car essentials are pretty similar to my plane essentials. Depending if I am driving or not, I may or may not bring my laptop or pillow. The bag I use follows the same rules, if its a longer drive I use a backpack and if it is shorter I will just use a tote. Also, instead of an actual physical book I will opt for an audio book so I don't get car sick.

Long Haul Flights: On the long haul flights I bring a lot of stuff because I get very bored. I will write another post of exactly what I pack but it is very similar with just a few more small things. On long hauls I pack a blanket because the plane ones aren't very soft and they aren't from home. I also bring some basic medication because I get claustrophobic or get an upset stomach on the plane. All of those things suck to get on a plane. I also bring a eye mask so I can sleep without the weird plane lights.

I hoped this helped all you guys that are going to be traveling this summer!

Beauty Favorites

Hey guys,

This spring has left me loving a few beauty products. I have definitely streamlined my routine in the mornings because of these things. I also wanted to say that I am a bit of a beauty geek. I have way too many products and putting on makeup is definitely one of the best parts of my day. I love makeup so much, bad sadly I don't enjoy wearing a ton of it because I am somewhat lazy. So here you guys go, these are my favorite beauty products!

Bobbi Brown Foundation- This foundation is perfect because it comes in so many shades, which is great for people that has super pale skin (like me). I also love that it covers up what I want to hide, but shows things like freckles. I have never broken out because of this foundation and I have super sensitive skin! If you are on the hunt for a new foundation, definitely give this one a try!

Bobbi Brown Nude Finish Illuminating Powder- This is also by Bobbi Brown, so if you couldn't tell they are my go to for makeup. This powder is amazing at setting your foundation and making your skin look like... wait for it... skin. This powder uses many different shades and finishes to create a super natural look that feels great on the skin.

False Eyelashes- I have had eyelash extensions for about a month now and I love them! I love that I wake up in the morning and look ready to go. However, it is all about where you go because I have friends that have them and they don't look good (sorry)! Definitely go in knowing what you want and be clear if you don't like them!

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick- I am very pale and because of that bronzer doesn't really work for me. The Bobbi Brown Shimmer brick is amazing because it is a bronzer, blush, and highlighter all in one. This makes it super easy and adds the perfect amount of color to your cheek. This one is my favorite and isn't dramatic.

The Perfect Pink Lip- So it does not look this color in real life, it looks like a nice nude pink. This pink is almost the exact color of my lips with just a bit more pink. This makes it my perfect shade because I can throw it on at any time without people being like "wow when did you put on lipstick." This matches so many people and it works with almost any outfit!

Hope you guys had fun reading this! Have a great day!

Top 5

Hey Guys,

I decided that it could be fun to list my top 5 favorite things from this week. This week had consisted of schoolwork, working, and family plans. From this crazy week I learned a few things that I guess I need to have on me at all times.

1. Coffee- Okay I guess this is a bit obvious, but I love coffee. I probably drink about 2 cups of coffee a day. My favorite and go to coffee is a grande vanilla latte with an extra shot of espresso from Starbucks. On days like this when AP testing is over it's just a little harder, i need a coffee.

2. Essential Oils- Whenever I am feeling a little stressed, I feel sick. I get headaches all the time and Advil doesn't always work well with me so essential oils are amazing. I defuse them in my car and in my room. I got mine from whole foods and another local store. There is an essential oil for almost everything!

3. Swell Water Bottle- I have 2 of the Lilly Pulitzer Swell Starbucks water bottles and they have not left my side this week. It is definitely important to drink a ton of water when you are super busy, other wise you will crash (i have lots of experience).

4.New Music- These past few days I have discovered a few new songs that I just love. Harry Styles' new songs are great and there are so many others that I have kept on my recent playlist!

5. Snacks- Sometimes I forget to eat when I am stressed or I eat too much junk food. This week I have developed an abundance of snacks that will keep me filled yet still taste good.

I hope you guys have an amazing week and weekend!

How to Make Money in High School

Hey Guys,

As a high school junior I have done a lot of things in order to make money. I know that sounds a bit snotty, and it is. However, being in high school can be super expensive especially when you have a ton of things you want to do. I have compiled a list of things to do to make money while in high school.

1. Get a job- I know this really applies to those that are 16 (at least where I live) because usually companies won't hire someone if they are younger than 16. I have a job at a local day care in a gym and I LOVE IT. I love kids and the constant schedule is great. Having a job that I go to 4 times a week is my main source of money. This is also a nice way to make consistent money. Apply to a ton of jobs if you want one.

2. Babysitting- I also babysit a ton and that is an easy way to make money. If you don't know anyone to babysit for, try putting something on Facebook. Yes Facebook. All the adults are on Facebook and they are the ones with the kids who need babysitters. There are also a lot of Facebook groups for teens in your area that are babysitters.

3. Garage Sales- These are super fun and you can make a lot quickly. Everyone has stuff they don't want anymore and selling it is a great way to get rid of it. You probably have a ton of clothes that are too small are you don't wear, sell them!

4. Make Something- If you have a talent or a passion you can probably make some sort of business out of it. I have a lot of friends that sell paintings or clothes. If you are amazing at painting, people will buy it. If you can make really cool clothes and you wear them, people will probably buy it!

5. Dog Walking- I did this a lot in middle school with my friends. We would make fliers saying we were going to come and walk your dog at a certain time if you put the sheet on your door. This worked super well and I got to hang out with dogs!

6. Snow Cone Stand- This works really well if you live in a neighbor hood. My friends and I used to put up a snow cone stand in front of their house before the middle school got out, and all the middle schoolers would walk by and buy one!

7. Mow Lawns- I haven't done this myself. but I have had a lot of friends that have. If you have a lawn mower and know how to mow a lawn, people will pay you to go mow it every few days. This is like having a job without as much commitment as a "real" job does.

I hope this helps for anyone that is looking to make a bit more money before summer. If you have any questions feel free to email me, I would love to talk to you!

School, AP Classes, and College Prep

Junior year has left me overwhelmed and tired. However, I love what it has taught me about my ability to hold myself accountable and push my self. I have come up with a few things that have helped me get threw this year.

Asking Questions: Slowly I have discovered that if I am confused or lost in a subject, I need to meet with the teacher. This could mean that during notes I raise my hand and ask questions. It could also mean that I need to go in before or after school. My math teacher has really pushed this idea through out the year and I have definitely seen a lot of improvement.

Set Aside Time: I am very busy and rarely have spare time. I try to set about an hour and a half for homework each night. There are nights when I definitely need more time, on those days I usually will try my hardest to work it into my schedule. If I don't set aside enough time each day I won't be able to get all my work done.

Know Your Limits: I know that if I set 4 hours aside to study, I will not be able to. A big part of what I have grasped this year is to let myself be happy. That means that sometimes I won't go to a basketball game or hang out with friends because I know adding that will not make me feel better.

Use a Planner: My planner holds everything. It contains my work schedule, my homework, volunteer hours, and other activities. I have mine color coded by class and activities and from that I can just flip it open and know everything about that day, week, or month. For junior year it holds everything that you may need.

Talk to Your Teachers: Teachers are the best and the worst. We all have a teacher that we don't get along with, but that doesn't mean you don't want to create a relationship with them. Teacher's have the power to write recommendation letters, tell you your skills, and help you narrow down colleges. They also have helped so many other students who are in your same position and classes decide on what routes to take. I am not saying that you should become best friends with your teachers, but at least create a healthy relationship with them.

Get Involved in What You Like: I hate when people say get involved that list off 10 things you could never see yourself doing. What I have seen this year is that your friends don't always like the things you do and use that freedom to join other things. I hate sports and if anyone ever tells me to try out for a team I almost laugh because I have no interest in that. However, I do love where I volunteer and I truly have a passion for that. Also, I am involved in a freshman- upperclassman buddy group that helps freshman or new students learn how to navigate out high school.

Take Time for Yourself: Each night I have to go to bed at 10 because I know if I don't I will be a mess. This idea is super important to me because everyday I get super stressed and worked up about a lot of thins. However, in the end I have to know that every day is a new day. Each night I try to end the day by watching an episode or two of my favorite show with my mom and my dog. I also make sure I shower and complete my skin care routine so I can relax before I end the day.

College Lists: Weirdly enough, exactly a year from today (May 1st) I will know where I will be going to college! Right now it is important that I am researching colleges and writing down ones I am interested on some sort of list. From these lists I can do more research and then by next fall I (hopefully) will know exactly where I want to apply.

I hope this helped to anyone that is in the same boat as I or are going to be experiencing it soon. I wish you the best of luck!

Junior Year

This week I am going to be writing a post about the many parts of junior year and how to handle it. This will consist of tips and tricks that I have discovered during my junior year of high school.

So in case you didn't know I am a junior in High School. Many people say that junior year is the hardest year in high school and I can definitely agree with that. Not just academically but socially as well. This year has left me so tired and I definitely do not want to live junior year ever again.

This year I am taking 3 AP classes. This was such a jump for me because I have never taken any AP classes before. The one class that sticks out to be the hardest for me is AP chemistry. AP classes offer a lot of advantages to many students that would like to get college credit. However, AP chemistry was probably not my smartest choice. As hard as this class is it has challenged me in a way that I have never been challenged before. To all sophomores becoming juniors, this year sucks but it will help you grow.

I also work 14 hours a week at a local daycare. I love my job. I love kids and this job has shown me that I definitely want to work with kids when I am older. However, a job is another event to add to my busy schedule and limit my little free time. From work I have met some of my favorite kids and have made some amazing connections. Working also provides me with money so I can do fun things.

Finally I volunteer. I can't give too much information about where I volunteer because it is very specific, but it is one of my most rewarding things I do.

Why do I do all this? Because that is what colleges apparently want to see. This combination along with SAT's, AP tests, and then social events like prom leaves someone with little time. Getting through this sucks but it is something that I want to do.

However, the entire point of this is to show that during junior year you do not have to go to every football game or love events like prom. It is okay to cry when you get overwhelmed and its okay to tell people about how you feel.

Top 5 Netflix Shows

Hello Everyone,

Since today is presidents day and that means no school. I will be spending my time touring a college(whoop whoop love junior year) and pretending to do homework while watching Netflix. I have a few go to shows on Netflix.

Bones:
Bones is such a good show. It is a mystery/drama/thriller. It is amazing and I can't ever stop. Me and my mom have ended each day by watching a episode or 2. If you have time, start this show. You will not regret it.

Gilmore Girls:
Gilmore Girls will always be my all time favorite show ever. I can't tell you how much joy I get out of watching this show. The reboot was amazing. This show will always have a space in my heart. If you have a great relationship with your mom, this show will hit you hard. This show will always be in my continued watching, because I can never stop watching this show.

Grey's Anatomy:
Greys Anatomy is a great show, up to the recent season. On Netflix it is great because you can avoid the new season all together. This show started my love for Netflix, it is such a dramatic/romance that keeps me on my toes. No matter how many times I watch, it will continuously show me things I have never seen before.

New Girl:
This show is so happy and uplifting. It is nice at the end of a stressful day where you want a non violent easy show. This is my go to on days like this. The main character is also the sister of the main character in Bones. This also has a great current season.

Friends:
Everyone knows of this show and for good reason. It is hilarious and filmed with humor. Each line and character is easily one of the best written things I know. My mom loves it, my dad does, my grandma, and my sister. This is the best common ground show without having to give up anything.

I hope you guys enjoyed this and got to spend this day in a super relaxing way.

Packing for the Weekend

Its been forever and I am sorry, but school got super stressful. It was the whole end of the semester finals chaos. However they were stressful, I did better than I could have ever hoped or expected them to go. Back to business, my parents are divorced and my dad lives out of state. However, he comes back every other weekend. From this I see him every other weekend and stay at his girlfriend's house then. I have practically mastered packing for a weekend.

First things first, always pack the necessities first and everything else comes second. Here are the first things that always go into my bag. With these few items I know I can spend the night and come and grab clothes in the morning if I need.
  • Undergarments
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Face wash, moisturizer, deodorant
  • PJ's
  • Socks
Once these are in my bag I can get to the other things. I start with the most important staples of an outfit. For me that involves the next day essentials and other mandatory outfits.
  • Work Uniform
  • Jeans or leggings
  • Versatile top
  • Light Weight coat
  • Makeup basics (foundation, concealer, powder, blush, and mascara)
  • Change of shoes if needed
Finally these are the things that go into my bag last. This is anything that is more of a comfort to me than a necessity. These are also things I could go without, but are always nice additions to have.
  • Perfume
  • Jewelry
  • Heavy coat (weather is always a mystery)
  • Straightener
I hope this helps you guys. I know a lot of people have trouble when it comes to packing for times like this. I hope this can help any of you! Have a great day!

Snow Day Essentials

Hey guys,

I am completely ecstatic because the Pacific North West has snow! We have had such a great winter so far. I have already had 5 days off due to snow and I love it. However, I am not to happy about the fact that I will have to make up those days in June/July.  Right now we have 5 inches and I have finalized my collection of my snow day essentials!

Over the past snow days I have been living in these outfits. I have been wearing a similar turtleneck to this one and it is so cozy and comfy. I can't stop wearing it. I have been pairing the turtleneck with the vest and it looks so cute. I have gotten so many compliments on it! When I adventure outside to take my dog on a walk, I wear my hiking socks. These socks are super soft and thick, and have kept my feet warm through many camping trips. I also wear my Patagonia down jacket which is super light weight, but still super warm. I love a cute hat to wear, your head is where your body heat escapes and wearing a hat can keep that heat inside. When I stay inside I love to curl up with a book or TV show. This book is great so far and its in a series that I love. If I am not reading, I will be watching Gilmore Girls. While I am curled up on the couch I drink some hot chocolate, and these Starbucks K-Cups are super easy to make and are super tasty.

I love the snow and I hope it stays for a while! Hope you are staying warm!

Skincare Favorites

Hey everyone,

Today I wanted to share my skincare favorites. I take my skincare pretty seriously and have found a routine that has worked for me. I have really sensitive skin and can't put perfume on my neck due to how sensitive it is. About six months ago my grandma took me to origins and I got a mini facial in the store. I instantly fell in love with their products. Since then I have slowly grown my collection of their items (they are a bit pricey for a high schooler) and use them religiously.

I never had super horrible acne but I had at least a few zits each day for a while. Since I have been consistent with these products I haven't had a major zit in the past 2 months (hopefully this won't jinx that) and I couldn't be happier. My skin is a combination of extremely dry and extremely sensitive so finally finding all these projects is fantastic.

Cleanser   Moisturizer   Serum   Toner   Vaseline

The short version of my skin care routine starts like this, I cleanse in the morning and at night with my Origins face wash. After letting my face dry I apply my serum morning and night. After that soaks in I apply my moisturizer and let that sink in. For the final touch I add some vaseline to my lips. I use the toner about 2-3 times a week if my skin is feeling extra dirty.

Also, I am looking for a good eye cream for my under eye circles! Please let me know if you have any recommendations!

Hope you enjoy!

How To Handle a Busy Schedule

Hey guys,

Right now my schedule is chaotic with school, work, volunteering, as well as taking care of myself. All of this has created a crazy day that I have somehow managed to handle. I definitely can't say I feel great about each day, but I know I can get through it. With each day bringing a new challenge a few things seem to keep each day in line.

Planner: I have to have my planner on my almost all the time. I use a Kate Spade planner and I love it. I use it for everything from school to work as well as family activities. I color code my planner and that really helps differentiate my schedule and knowing what to do each day. From this I usually have a weekly look at my schedule as well as a monthly one. Knowing exactly what I have each day makes the day a bit more bearable. Hopefully you guys can take a look at my planner soon.

Water: With constantly being on the go staying hydrated is important. This helps keep my energy up and can easily be refilled through out the day. I also love all the fun colors that Hydro Flask's come in as well as how they can keep a drink warm or cold for long periods of time.

Coffee: I have no idea what I would do without coffee. I drink about a cup in the morning right when I wake up and when I get ready. I also stop at Starbucks on my way to school in the morning. This keeps me alert during my morning classes when I would rather be asleep.

Sleep: The most important thing is to get a good nights sleep. Each night I try to get to bed at a reasonable hour (between 10:00 and 10:45) so I can think clearly each day. If I can't get enough sleep, I will take a melatonin in order to make my short nights sleep into a short but deep and refreshing sleep.

I hope you have a fantastic day that's calm and not busy, and if so I hope these tips help!

What I am Reading

Hey Guys,

One of my goals this year was to read one book each month and I have already collected a few that I am currently reading or about to read.

The first book is Australia. Its a tour guide book with lots of information about Australia and the surrounding areas and islands. This will be super useful to read before I go so I can know exactly what I want to do and see.

The second book is Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by J.K. Rowling. I have actually seen the movie and loved it so much that I decided to read the book as well. I love all of her work and can't wait to see how I interpret it the book rather than the movie.

The third book is The Rocks by Peter Nichols. I have just read the blurb on this book and it sounds super interesting. Its a bit of a love story and how it played back over many years. I can't wait to get into it.

The fourth book is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and I absolutely adore this. We read parts of it freshman year and I still haven't read it all the way through. We have to read it junior year and I can't wait to discuss this book with my class.

The fifth book is the Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger and I am actually currently reading this. I am about half way through it and it is amazing. It is so interesting and I can't seem to put it down. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes to think deeply during a read.

I hope you guys are enjoying some good books right now and have a fantastic day,
Allie
